On September 6, 2017, Nick Danese, SSI’s Senior Representative for Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa will make multiple presentations regarding a single environment for design and production. The presentations will be done at the PROCAD EXPO in Gdansk, Poland.
Presentation 1: Design & Production: the Single Environment: the 3D model is the heart of the company and used in most departments (general presentation) (30 minutes)
The 3D model fulfils many roles, very similar in design and production: produce drawings, Bills of Materials, count end-treatments, drives robots, etc., but also directly supports non-Engineering tasks, like forecasting consumables (paint, blasting, welding, need for special machines, etc.), human resource requirements (man hours, specialty workers, inspection and reports, etc.). The environment around the 3D model also includes data & information not produced by designers and production teams: lead time, availability, problem areas, etc. Therefore the 3D is the visual representation of many different types of data & information generated and required by different departments. Autodesk and SSI offer already today the tools used as described above: AutoCAD, Navisworks, Vault, 3DS Max, V-Red, Factory verticals, AdvanceSteel, etc. and EnterprisePlatform& ShipConstructor.
Presentation 2: More detail plus case study of the above. (30 minutes)
Presentation 3: Design & Production: the Single Environment - 2: the environment around the 3D model is used and managed directly by most departments (30 minutes)
EnterprisePlatform & ShipConstructor and the Autodesk platform are one solid, fundamental component of the solution, and handle directly the product model (3D model) and a lot of the related meta-data (weld lengths by type, blast areas, weights, etc.) based on the ShipConstructor MIM (the project database, Marine Information Model). The overall solution includes other components too: software systems, people, departments, tasks, jobs, deliverables, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. All people and departments receive data & information from the MIM using the EnterprisePlatform Client PublisherLT, and they can also themselves produce documents, specific data & information from the MIM directly using very simple commands.
In the same way they add (upload) and combine their own meta-data & information to the MIM and/or to other data storage units (text files, Excel, ERP, PLM, Document Management, etc.). This is done semi-manually, for example using User Defined Attributes, or automatically, using other software normally found in every company. The automatic process uses the EnterprisePlatform Server, with Nodes, Connectors, and Operations.
Presentation 4: More detail plus case study of the above. (30 minutes)
