New Features in ShipConstructor 2013
ShipConstructor 2013 enables users to work in the most advanced CAD environment by adding AutoCAD 2013 compatibility. AutoCAD 2013 offers several new tools and improvements as detailed on Autodesk’s website. Please note that the latest version of the AutoCAD service pack is required (SP1.1 minimum).
Enhanced BOM Revisioning
A Bill of Materials (BOM) Revision History can now be included in DWG based production drawings which will save shipyards hundreds of hours of work. Changes will no longer slip through unnoticed and it will no longer be necessary to visually compare DWGs side by side to identify changes since deleted items will have a strikethrough, item numbering will never be changed and updated items will show an asterisk until a new revision is created.
WorkShare Design
WorkShare Design is part of the WorkShare suite for use with ShipConstructor. WorkShare Design allows users to leverage large portions of design work from a previous project. This is achieved by intelligently capturing the model information in a single compressed package which can then be deployed in other projects. From this intelligent package, a user can select which sections of the project will be imported. The catalog, model drawings, production drawings, and their associations and relationships are then rolled into the chosen project. Unlike WorkShare Project, once combined through WorkShare Design, the two projects and their data are independent.
Part Views
Released as part of the Subscription Advantage Pack for ShipConstructor 2011 R2 and now promoted into the regular release for ShipConstructor 2013, this feature allows a user working in a drawing to view ShipConstructor parts that are external to that drawing without having to include an entire MLink. Only pertinent parts are shown. A practical example for Part Views is during the construction of Secondary Product Hierarchies for use in Arrangement Drawing Creation.
New Tools and Usability Enhancements in Product Hierarchies
A. It is now possible to copy a product hierarchy with or without part locations into a new prouct hierarchy.
This enables the reuse of existing hierarchical structures to build complex secondary hierarchies.
Potential Applications:
- Critical path system analysis
- Delivery sequence of third party processed parts
- Organizing parts by processing methods
- Organizing assemblies for assembly drawing creation beyond what is possible in the actual build sequence.
B. ShipConstructor 2013 adds the ability to export and then import the structure of a product hierarchy into a new project. This is helpful for re-use of work on a sister ship design when the design only requires slight modifications.
Increased Quality
As with every release, SSI strives to continually improve ShipConstructor. In ShipConstructor 2013 33 new features have been introduced and 194 issues fixed.
