Overview
In ShipConstructor 2017 R2, SSI added capabilities for streamlining reviews, increasing HVAC modeling efficiency and numerous other enhancements. See highlights below.
New ShipConstructor HVAC Stock Parts: Inlet and Vane Turn Elbows
1. PARAMETRIC INLET ELBOWS
The Inlet Elbow is particularly useful when modeling in places around equipment where space is tight. This new elbow type part is characterized by:
- Throat radius and heel radius that are typically the same (though the heel can be specified separately).
- End profiles that vary only in width. The profile height is the same for both end 1 and end 2.
- Typically a boxy shape with a rounded rectangular heel and throat.
Benefits
This new HVAC part supports more accurate modeling, increases manufacturability and streamlines processes by having these parts included in BOMs and reports.
2. PARAMETRIC VANE TURN ELBOW
Also useful in tight spaces, the vane turn elbow is characterized by a mitered corner and an added vane channel down the middle to accommodate turning vanes and vane assemblies to facilitate airflow. (Note: vanes not included in part model.)
Benefits
This new HVAC part supports more accurate modeling, increases manufacturability and streamlines processes by having these parts included in BOMs and reports.

Product Hierarchy UDAs inherited by parts visible in AutoCAD Properties
Highlights
In this release, SSI has improved the way the AutoCAD Properties palette displays values of User Defined Attributes assigned to ShipConstructor Structure parts. Now, all Structure parts that inherit their UDA values from a Product Hierarchy tree are capable of displaying those values directly in the Properties palette.
Benefits
This produces a great advantage when exporting ShipConstructor drawings to Autodesk Navisworks for review and when sharing drawings with people who do not have access to the original Product Hierarchy tree. This is because you can more easily identify groups of structural parts. Reviews, material movement and planning for steel cutting are now much easier.

ShipConstructor Unified Manual
To improve the searchability of the ShipConstructor manuals provided with the software, SSI now installs with a single unified ShipConstructor manual in PDF format. This lets a user search for topics that may span across several products.
