As my first post on the Crow’s Nest I wanted to take the time to lay out my vision for this new space
Over the last 14 years with SSI I have been actively involved in all aspects of the business. I started out as one of a small team of developers working on the transition from CAD-Link to ShipConstructor. Since then I have done work in marketing, support, IT, sales, product management, management, and of course my latest role as CEO of the team. In all of those various roles, the one thing I always enjoyed more than anything else was interacting with our partners and clients around the world.
I’ve spent time in almost every conceivable place that designs or build ships. Much of that time was spent learning from the industry and sharing what I picked up from those that use ShipConstructor and Autodesk products. Over the years the number of markets and organizations that use ShipConstructor has grown, and the amount of time available for the type of interaction I enjoy (and frankly need to have in order to lead SSI) hasn’t kept pace. I will still spend much of my time on the road, but with the Crow’s Nest I will be able to share with, and learn from, more people than I otherwise would be able.
So what can you expect to see here? In some ways I’ll figure that out as we go along. Some of the things I know I will be talking about include SSI news, major shipbuilding programs and news, how technology is impacting our industry, how and why the industry adopts technology (or doesn’t), what other industries are doing with CAD/CAM technology, trends in the design and engineering of ships and offshore projects and more…
In an ideal world this space isn’t about one-sided communication, but about active conversation. I strongly encourage your expertise, comments, questions, and feedback to make that happen.
