Clients are looking to do more and more with ShipConstructor and begin even earlier in the project lifecycle. Because of this, they are looking for ways to get more value from the 3D model they create along the way. One of our ShipConstructor Developer Network (SCDN) members, AutoFEM, has recently used the ShipConstructor API to allow FEA /FEM (Finite Element Analysis/Finite Element Modeling) to be performed on the ShipConstructor 3D model in AutoCAD.
The value of this is that it is a way to create a seamless workflow– from creating a 3D model in ShipConstructor to doing the FEA work that is required over the lifecycle of the vessel.
ShipConstructor works on top of an AutoCAD foundation and so does AutoFEM. Therefore, it was natural to collaborate.
Clients can now leverage the information from within the ShipConstructor Product Model to directly drive the Analysis tools in AutoFEM without leaving the familiar AutoCAD Environment!
There is substantially more that can be said about this so SSI will issue more information about this topic in the near future.
