We’re always proud to share our client’s experiences using our software. Read on below to see, from their perspective, how Buoyancy Consultants used ShipConstructor to solve their latest technical challenges.
At Buoyancy Consultants and Engineering, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our client experience. The challenge often comes about when the client is at a location on the other side of the prime meridian. Sight and experience play second fiddle in these cases. But the show has to be spectacular or the client will never ask for an encore. Between the passenger crafts to the offshore rigs, the Panamaxs to the VLCC’s, our range of clients is as diverse as it gets.
Our relationship with ShipConstructor began when a challenging proposition surfaced. It was a 90 foot dredger we were commissioned to work on. While we had everything in place from the team to the hardware to the expertise, the input format was going to be alien. It’s not that we couldn’t recognize it, just that it wasn’t what we primarily get in a submittal. The client wanted his design in an output format that was best delivered through ShipConstructor. Compounding the situation was that our new team members had more experience with other software.
As a team we are aware of our strengths. As a company we stand by our commitments. So we did the most logical thing we could think of – get another license.
Good consultants buffer for time, great consultants optimize it. Having a few new hands on deck, we anticipated a delay in our delivery schedule. But it was not to be (this story does have a happy ending).
Optimizing our process is always a priority. While our modelling is being carried out in 2D, the conversion to 3D is an additional step. Leveraging this feature allowed us to circumvent clashes quicker, increase modelling speed and keep us ahead of schedule.
But we weren’t done yet. Since our delivery schedule was ahead of time, the client increased our scope to include production drawings as well. We were ecstatic!
Pragmatically, every silver lining also has a dark cloud. Since the yard where our vessel was to be built opened up a slot early, our timeline had to be reworked. Challenges like these are not frequent but we are always ready for them. By this time our experiments with ShipConstructor’s features were paying dividends.
Ease of creating production drawings was a huge plus. New team members were able to handle the software faster owing to Autodesk’s standardization. “It’s so easy to use” said Amber, an outfitting modeller at our office. ShipConstructor was the second modeling software he got his hands on and he found the transition seamless.
Collaborating on projects was getting simpler and soon becoming our norm on this platform. Creating nesting drawings and our parts list were a breeze. All this time saved allowed us to meet the challenge head on with confidence.
We take great pride in the quality of our work. 97% of our business is from the same clients we have developed a relationship with over the years. Our commitment to their satisfaction is unwavering.
As master craftsmen of our ‘Craft’ (pun intended), ShipConstructor helps us sail through the finish line.
