Exciting news from SSI clients Great Lakes Shipyard and Genoa Design International.
It is exciting to learn that Great Lakes Shipyard has completed the first of 10 Damen Stan Tug 1907 ICE vessels. Longtime SSI client Genoa Design International did the production detailing in ShipConstructor and Great Lakes Shipyard has also now purchased software from SSI.
Firsts
These tugs are significant because they are the first tugs built to meet the new USCG Subchapter M regulations and the first Damen tugs to be built under license in the United States.
Stout Scantlings
They are being built for sister company Great Lakes Towing. Great Lakes was impressed by Damen’s reputation for quality and saw that this design “exactly matched” its needs. The design has the stout scantlings necessary for operations in ice and has impressive maneuvering capabilities.
Ensuring Efficiency
Great Lakes’ purchase of ShipConstructor was facilitated by a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD). The purpose of the grant is to help improve efficiency and competitiveness. Great Lakes Shipyard has also taken part in SSI USA’s Production Assurance program providing discounted training to its staff to ensure quality and productivity.
