Software, services, and expertise for the business of shipbuilding.

Software Release

With the November 2025 release, ShipConstructor 2026 R3 and ShipbuildingPLM 3.2 deliver practical improvements for permissions management, clash detection, compartment modeling, production planning, and change management. The result is faster day-to-day work, clearer decisions, and better coordination between engineering, planning, and production.

Key Highlights

  • Less administration, fewer mistakes. User group permissions based on secondary attributes reduce repetitive setup and help standardize access across large teams.
  • Improved clash workflows. Positive clearances and rules-based clash handling reduce noise and keep designers focused on the most important tasks.
  • Better compartment data. Automatically generate accurate, editable volume sets for complex compartments directly from drawing objects.
  • Shop-floor ready planning. Work Packages in ShipbuildingPLM bridge planning, engineering, and production.

Join the SSI team on November 20 at 8am PST (11am EST, 5pm CET) for a webinar first look at all the improvements now available in ShipConstructor 2026 R3 and ShipbuildingPLM 3.2.

What’s New

Manage User Groups in Permissions

Reduce the time spent managing project access. Now, grant or remove project access, via user groups based on secondary attributes such as disciplines, working groups, or temporary contractor teams. Reducing the repetitive administration steps required to control access to areas of the model a user can work in lowers the risk of errors during project handover.

Positive Clearance Clashes

Use an optional Positive Clearance Violations check to flag parts that do not intersect, but are too close based on a specified tolerance. This lets you set practical clearances and resolve near-miss conditions before they reach production.

Clash Rules

Define rules that identify and automatically filter for the clashes which are most impactful, based on the current design cycle. You can quickly rule out repeat or low-impact patterns, keep the focus on what matters, and cut the time needed to manage long clash lists.

Create Clash Rules from the Clash Manager

Fit Complex Compartments

Generate accurate compartment volume sets for complex shapes directly from objects selected in a drawing. The Fit Compartment function runs in the background to create a set of volumes that follow the overall geometry. You can also resize and draw volumes in the drawing, then store their extents, which makes it easy to fine-tune the result.

Shop-Floor Ready Digital Production Planning

ShipbuildingPLM 3.2 introduces Work Package Deliverables, a set of tools for planners to organize and deliver production work, independent of the engineering product hierarchy. These tools can be used on their own or integrated with ERP, MES, and DWI systems.

Planning teams can bundle parts, spools, assemblies, functional items, plate and profile nests, and related documents into versioned, change controlled containers that are independent of the engineering product hierarchy. This creates a clean separation between Planning and Engineering while keeping a single source of truth.

Work Packages are the core container for production delivery and consist of:

  • Parts, spools, assemblies, functional parts, and connections.
  • Rich properties: start and finish dates, discipline, sequence, work type or stage, activity codes, workstation, WBS, budget, and associations to blocks and hulls.
  • Relationship level controls per item: sequence, budget, item action such as assemble, cut, or fabricate, include in PBOM, accessory selection, source package, special status, and planner notes.
  • Related Documents: CAD files, production or model drawings, and plate or profile nests.
  • BOM Structure: Show parent items and surrounding context.
  • Planning BOM (PBOM): A list of everything to be ordered from the warehouse, including accessory sources and catalog data.

View Planned Work in 3D

Visually navigate the work to be done, see relationships, and access linked deliverables. Dynamic Program Navigation (DPN) provides a clear, browser-based 3D view that improves understanding of scope and status – helping you understand the planned work.

Control Production Change

Manage production changes with controlled workflows and work package versions. Capture the entire scope of change defined by an ECO, including situations where items must be present in multiple Release Containers at the same time. Workflow signoff gates prevent redundant reviews or releases.

Approve changes, stop work, assign item actions, and populate the Planning BOM (PBOM) from one place. This shortens the path from decision to execution. Crucially, the work package lifecycle does not need to be linked to a part or drawing lifecycle.

Other Fixes and Improvements

Release Container Updates
  • Hold multiple spools and assemblies within a single RCO.
  • Use a new tab to visualize and navigate multiple top-level branches.
  • Remove spools and assemblies while the RCO is In Work to make quick corrections.
  • See 3D visualization for assembly-type RCOs directly within the extended DPN view.
  • Allow items to participate in multiple RCOs concurrently, constrained by workflow gates that preserve review integrity.
