Back by Popular Demand
It was such a big hit at the recent Workboat Show, that once again, SSI is doing a demo about the interoperability of CAD Software with Portable Scanning products.
At the upcoming Offshore Technology Conference in Houston (OTC 2018, April 30- May 3), SSI will be showcasing “ShipScan”. The project, funded by the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP), aims to improve the current handheld 3D scanning process in shipbuilding. It will also document workflows that can be integrated easily and inexpensively into business and engineering processes.
Usefulness to ShipConstructor Users
A key benefit of using 3D remote scanning is that it provides an efficient way to validate a digital twin. A streamlined workflow involves: reality capture using scanning technologies such as DotProduct; computing and managing scanned data using Autodesk ReCap; creating and referencing 3D data using SSI’s ShipConstructor; and finally, visualizing and communicating merged data files using Autodesk Navisworks.

Tom Greaves and Don Gillikin from DotProduct will be in the SSI booth to demonstrate his company’s portable handheld “tablet” laser scanner.
SSI USA staff Patrick Roberts, Darren Guillory, Jeanie Shumock and Jennifer Walley will be on hand to talk more about the ShipScan project and how SSI’s ShipConstructor and EnterprisePlatform software are ideal for promoting efficiency and effectiveness throughout the offshore and marine production design process.
